Our Favorite Prime Day Mattress and Sleep Deals (Day 2)

Few of us are getting enough sleep these days. There are a lot of reasons for that, but if you need a new bed or a more relaxing sleeping environment, these Amazon Prime Day deals on mattresses, cozy comforters, and high-tech sleep gadgets may help you out.

The WIRED Gear team tests products year-round. We sorted through hundreds of thousands of deals by hand to make these picks. Crossed out products are out of stock or no longer discounted. Our Amazon Prime Day coverage page has the latest stories, and our Prime Day Shopping Tips will help you avoid bad deals. You can also get a 1-Year Subscription to WIRED for $5 here.

Mattress Deals

We’ve tested a lot of mattresses. Check out more of our favorites at Best Mattresses and Favorite Organic Mattresses. And if your household includes young’uns, set them up for a good night’s sleep with our Best High-Tech Bassinets guide.

Nod by Tuft & Needle

Nod is an Amazon-exclusive sub-brand by Tuft & Needle. We haven’t tested this particular model, although our reviewers are fans of Tuft & Needle. This hybrid has 2 inches of soft foam on top, with an inch of firmer foam to reduce bounciness, a layer of 6-inch pocket coils, a layer of spring coils, and an inch of base foam. Hybrids like this tend to be our preferred type of mattresses, as they offer the benefits of both foam and traditional innersprings.

While we haven’t tested the Element, we have tested Casper mattresses and are broadly fans of the brand. Our favorite mattresses tend to be hybrids with coil springs and foam, but this all-foam model is comprised of three layers of foam for comfort and support.

You have to put that mattress on something. Box springs provide support for the mattress and raise it to a more typical height, although you’ll still need a frame to get it off the floor. This Casper box spring is wrapped in dark chambray cloth for a classy look that’ll blend in with a wide range of bedroom decorative schemes.

Enter code SLEEP300 at checkout to see the discount. This is another deal that’s continued since July 4. WIRED reviews editor Julian Chokkattu has been sleeping on this mattress for about two months. He says the Tencel cover adds a pillowy-softness to the very top, yet the whole bed feels relatively firm. Edge support is pretty good, and it seems to offer good support for stomach, back, and side sleepers. These mattresses are handmade to order in the US.

PetFusion Calming Cuddler Bed

Photograph: Amazon

We haven’t asked any cats or dogs whether this PetFusion bed soothed their anxieties about the state of the world, but it nests puffy polyester plush over a solid memory foam base for comfort. Since it’s rather small, it’s aimed at pets that weigh 25 pounds or less. Reviewer Medea Giordano recommended it in our guide to stress-relieving gifts over the holidays, saying that PetFusion products are good at holding up to the wear and tear animals put them through.

Unlike pet beds with a 90-degree wall (like a sofa arm), this Furhaven bed gently slopes at either end so your little buddy doesn’t have to crane their neck to sleep soundly. In our experience, Furhaven beds are well-made, with a solid block of memory foam at their core rather than a bunch of cut-up pieces of foam. This one’s sized to fit dogs that weigh up to 75 pounds.

Pillow and Bedsheet Deals

Sometimes all you need is a set of fresh sheets to make your bed feel new again. While you’re at it, look at our Best Weighted Blankets and Best Earplugs guides.

Leesa Hybrid Pillow

One of Amazon’s house brands for bedding, Pinzon is a label that punches far above its weight in terms of quality for the money. We’ve used these for years. The sheets are crisp, smooth, and feel cool to the touch on those hot summer nights.

Chase your dreams on the traditionally puffy, quilted side of this pillow or flip it over to lay your head on the firmer cooling gel side. The gel insert is removable so you can toss the rest of the pillow in the washing machine, unlike many gel pillows that must be hand-washed.  We’re big fans of Leesa mattresses here on WIRED’s reviews team, and their pillows are made with a comparable level of quality.

As a side-sleeper, I tend to prefer foam pillows because they support my neck so I don’t wake up with aches and pains in the morning. This pillow is made for side, back, and stomach sleepers, so feel free to flop around and change positions all night.

Blankets aren’t just for winter. Whether you’re compensating for too-cold air conditioning or just want something soft to cuddle under during movie night, a Sherpa blanket has high-pile fibers that feel softer and more luxurious than an ordinary blanket. While we haven’t tested this blanket, more than 16,000 reviewers on Amazon give it an overall 4.7 stars out of 5.

Amazon Basics Weighted Blanket

Weighted blankets stimulate a calming response that can help lull you to sleep. If you find it tough to catch Z’s at night or crave a little extra comfort, a weighted blanket might be just what you need. Several different weights are available, from 12 to 20 pounds. As with the Amazon Basis Sherpa Blanket, we haven’t tested it (yet), but it’s a low-cost option in a space where the competition often sells for over $100.

If memory foam sleeps too warm for you, check out these fluffy polyester microfiber-filled pillows. The covers are 100 percent cotton in a percale weave, which has a crisper, cooler feeling than typical cotton covers. Our Casper experience is limited to mattresses and sunrise alarms, but in our experience, Casper products have been thoughtfully designed and well-made.

Sometimes all an older mattress needs is a new topper to bring back that pillowy soft feeling from when it was new. Gel tends to benefit those who sleep warm. While also providing back support, the gel construction feels cooler than memory foam. We’ve slept many nights on it.

Sleep Gadget Deals

Measuring the health of your sleep habits is all the rage. Slide this sleep-tracking pad under your mattress to record your heart rate, sleep cycles, rate of breathing disturbances, and more to create a sleep diary that you can use to diagnose your sleep quality. It works with Amazon Alexa and pairs via an Android or iPhone app so you can see your results as soon as you wake up in the morning. WIRED contributor Simon Hill has used this as a baseline to compare against other sleep products he’s tested.

The Homelabs nabbed best overall pick in my guide to the Best Sunrise Alarms not because it’s the fanciest or most revolutionary alarm. It was (and remains) my favorite because of its impressive build quality and a list of features that matches competitors that cost several times the price. It’s as equally effective as setting a calming “sunset” mode before bed as it is at waking me up gently in the mornings in “sunrise” mode.

It’s not exactly the same as a dedicated sunrise alarm, but a smart bulb kit with some easy-to-set custom settings can be a reliable way to nudge you into bed in the evenings or out of bed in the mornings if you already have lamps that accept a typically sized bulb. Hue product names can be a bit confusing. “Ambiance” means you can set not just the color of the light, but the “temperature” of the white light, too. That means making it more yellow (warmer) or more blue (cooler). I include a few tips on setting up sunrise and sunset routines with Hue bulbs in my guide to Best Sunrise Alarms, as well as some of their limitations.

What the Casper Glow Light lacks in a list of features, it makes up for in intuitive design. Simply rotating the Glow Light or flipping it over controls a basic but reliable set of functions that make this sunrise/sunset alarm a solid performer. More functionalities are available in the app.

Complete and oppressive silence can be as bad as loud neighbors and street noise when you’re trying to drift off. A white noise machine provides a soothing background whoosh to help you fall asleep. There are two speeds to change the volume and tone of the noise. This is one of our favorite white noise machines, thanks in part to an internal fan that creates an authentic wind noise rather than simply playing a sound file.

If all you need is noise to fall asleep to, Morphée’s meditation machine is the device you’ve been after. It looks like a little music box, which is fun, and there are plenty of themed meditations—body scan, breathing, movement, visualizations, cardiac coherence, napping, relaxing music, nature sounds—available in either eight or 20-minute lengths. The kids version is also on sale for $80 ($20 off).
