Our Favorite Air Purifier for Large Rooms Is on Sale

If you’ve been eyeing an air purifier, you’re in luck. Our favorite purifier for large rooms, the Coway Airmega 400, is on sale for $381, which is a $119 price cut from its usual $500 price tag. We initially highlighted a discount at Walmart that brought the price down to a startlingly low $220, but it’s no longer available. The Amazon deal may not be its lowest price ever—that was pre-pandemic—but it’s the biggest dip since the start of 2020.

No matter where you live, an air purifier is a good idea. Even if your indoor air doesn’t feel dirty, it is. Outdoor particulate matter and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) make their way into our homes. Indoor plastics and furniture give off noxious fumes. And there’s always dust and pet dander. Along with frequent vacuuming, an air purifier can help you get things under control.

Updated July 8, 2021: The deal at Walmart ended, but there’s still a discount available at Amazon.

Is the Airmega 400 Right for You?

The Airmega 400 has high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters that cycle the air in a 1,560-square-foot room twice per hour. If you’re using it in a smaller space, it can cycle it out four times per hour. It can automatically adjust settings based on the room’s changing air quality, so you don’t have to think about it. And it has a color-coded air quality ring on the front, so you know what your room’s status is at a glance.

It has a prefilter made to catch larger particles, which you can wash, as well as a HEPA filter combined with activated carbon that will eventually need to be swapped—the purifier will alert you when it’s time to do both. They’re easy to snap in and out.
